Power Surge Circle

Power Surge Circle

For 50 years Co-op Radio has been by your side, keeping up with local news, music and arts. Now, as December closes out a remarkable year, we’re determined to finish strong.

The plan is simple yet powerful: 50 supporters each giving $1,000

This will provide the financial boost we need to keep community voices strong as we move into the new year.

This ask may stretch beyond what’s possible for many in our community right now. But for those who can join us, your generosity will provide critical funding to keep Co-op Radio running strong into the next 50 years (and you’ll receive a charitable tax receipt!).

Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, every donations received by the end of the year of at least $500, will be matched up by a generous anonymous donator up to $50,000.

Leela Chinniah was the first to jump in! and she included this:

I wanted to send you this note because I feel moved to join the Power Surge Circle. I joined Co-op Radio as a volunteer programmer when I was in my 20s. At first, I was motivated by the idea of contributing to the creation of alternative media. As I got more involved, I was captivated by how communities organize – with all the messiness and beauty of working collaboratively when we come to the table with differences.

As my life with Co-op Radio continued, I was moved the most by the people who make this organization. The countless conversations. The stories of hardship and histories, both similar and different from mine. The shared disdain of small talk and the desire to grapple with the complexities of the world. I also witnessed the commitment to do the hard work to make things happen. I reveled in the ease of laughter, often at ourselves. And I was surprised at the willingness to hold tears when the inevitability of griefs and losses emerged.

Co-op Radio was a significant part of my development as an adult and has shaped who I’ve become. Now that I’m in a different phase of my life, I want to give back to this institution that has given so much to me. Please accept this donation as my thank you to the co-op, to the radio, to the people and to the power of what happens when we come together for 50 years. May Co-op Radio surge into the next phase of its life.

Leela has now been joined by Jim Humphry, Bill Ehrcke and Franco Ferrari.
