EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Vancouver Co-operative Radio, CFRO, 100.5 FM is a non-profit, listener-supported, multi-lingual community station that has provided Vancouver with alternative public affairs, music, and arts programming since 1975. Co-op Radio produces creative and engaging programming for communities whose voices are underrepresented in the mainstream media.  Our organization is rooted in values of participation, co-operation, social justice, independence and community.  The station staff are unionized with Unifor Local 3000.

We’ve recently been through some major organizational changes including a full station move and staff changes.  We are in the midst of transitioning from a collective staff model to a hierarchical model. We are looking for an Executive Director to fill this newly created position who will be responsible for the successful direction, leadership and management of the organization in accordance with our mission, vision, values, and annual goals.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Overall strategic leadership and successful execution of change including:

  • Developing plan for changes to staff positions in accordance with the budget, long-term sustainability plan and mission of the organization
  • Conducting hiring and review of new staff and updating HR policies and procedures, in accordance with the changes
  • Analyzing impact of these changes and developing strategies to address challenges
  • Implementing financial and fundraising changes to ensure the station’s long-term sustainability

Day-to-day operational management of all aspects of the organization including:

  • Managing finances: budgeting, grant-writing, financial management, and reporting
  • Managing human resources andoverseeing staff including hiring, firing, discipline, staff reviews, managing conflicts, liaising with the staff’s union (Unifor), advancing a respectful environment that is consistent the station’s values
  • Managing organizational development: supporting the development of a strong Board of Directors; maintaining professional and collaborative board and committee relations; leading strategic planning and connection with Mission, Vision and Values
  • Managing a communications plan for all stakeholders including members, volunteer programmers, and funders

 

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum of 3 years non-profit and/or co-op leadership experience
  • Experience and skills leading successful change and difficult transitions
  • Knowledge and experience supporting Boards of Directors, developing policy and organizational development activities
  • Proven ability to raise funds within a non-profit environment
  • Successful grant writer
  • Technologically savvy and resourceful
  • Skills and/or training in conflict resolution
  • Experience and/or skills in non-profit/charity financial management
  • Passionate about the values of community radio
  • Community radio experience an asset

 

REPORTS TO:  Board of Directors

DIRECT REPORTS:  4 part-time staff

 

FTE:       0.85 (30 hours a week)

WAGE:  $40,000 – $44,000/year based on skills and experience. Plus, generous benefits and vacation.

 

START DATE:  No later than November 1st, 2017.

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 1 year with the option to renew
